Soiled Pelican

stoic under layers of oil
pelican parent
facing the inevitable

as we watch
we consider
our connections
our responsibilities

every trip in the car
every plastic bottle
petroleum everywhere

every pelican
every hermit crab
every bit of clean water
soiled forever

now is too late
but we still need  to act

Brian, It is the time for poets to express our rage and grief; to be silent is to be complicit.. sigh.

Sad, sad, sad - so dreadful that this has happened, so much is hurt, damaged & dying.

So very sad for every plant, bird, animal and human involved.

I saw this video of a cat and a crow thought you'd enjoy it. Here is the link:

You're so right. It is too late, but we still need to act.

Thank you for your kind and generous comment! A complement from you means so much, Joan. xx

Timely post!

It may be time to question long term trust in 'market forces' and apply intelligence to the creeping death of climate change and pollution.

As a character in 'Cull', the novel, said: "Humanity is the first species ever to have the knowledge to predict its own demise, the technology to prevent it but lacks the wisdom to apply it in time."
