Relics

resting on the ceramic counter
it just lay there cast aside

for me, evidence of another
once present now gone

with the empty aspirin bottle
and a lone dirty sock

relics of a relationship

The shape and sounds of this poem work really well together to move towards the last line, relics of a relationship. It's sucessful too in suggesting what remains unsaid. Liked this a lot.

Yes, dead relationships always leave sad reminders, but for goodness sake, throw it out with the wet tissues... maybe not. You could always use it to clean your sink drain pipe while muttering appropriate expletives!

Dear Joan: The flow of your poem reminds me of Haiku. The relationship is a relic. Love this concept! Once meaningfully sharing part of one's life and now just a thing to be discarded as easily. Most Succinct. Very Astute. Poignant!

I love the way you sum up the end of the poem...relics of a relationship. I had no idea what to do with this one. You hit it right on the mark.

Miscellaneous items sum up a broken relationship. Nice work.

Some souvenirs should not be kept.

Nice job capturing so much in so few words.

Wonderful magpie. It's amazing how little things linger to remind us who was once there.
